Asher with Ubeboet in a collaborative work. Ubeboet is Miguel A. Tolosa, who has his work released on Twenty Hertz, Non Visual Objects, Zeromoon as well as his own Con-V label. Their collaborative work is another fine example of what I wrote above. Here it's all field recordings, or so it seems, which pop up every now and then. Water sounds, people talking, perhaps cars passing, but by and large it's covered with 'dirt' - hiss, static, processed central heating system humming and such like. They create a dense, moody, but also rich texture of small events that cross each other. Thicker than is usual with this kind of music, they do a fine job. Both of them are clear examples of how this particular niche operates.

Some way away from Promotion's somewhat unkempt fields is the more refined preserve of Ubeboet’s Spectra. Miguel Angel Tolosa, Ubeboet man, is a Madrid-based artist hitherto more absorbed in lowercase concerns. Spectra, however, finds the trajectories of musique concrète, drone, phonography and minimalism converging beauteously. A cathedral-esque space hosts a glass-sculpted entwining of tones, opening pieces, like "Premia Lucis", seeming to allude to medieval Christian liturgy. Soft tintinnabulations swim through light drone and flutter across the sonic spectrum. What initially strikes as a transparent work of digital drone with a few ambient flourishes, however, becomes increasingly episodic and opaque. Apparently realised using “field recordings, fm radio, tape recorder, lap steel guitar” added to the ubiquitous “laptop”, the rougher edge these infusions impart to base tone-motions make new disclosures, as Tolosa's lowercase breeding starts to show. A piece like "Vuelo, Son, Mar, Canto interno" displays his sound design prowess in endowing these vignettes with pockets and folds into which detail is tucked for questing listeners to probe. The further the album progresses, the more celestial sites are abandoned for more ambiguously shaded chambers. Spectra, overall, expertly offsets the compositional austerity of minimalism with a certain sensory indulgence of timbre, subtly blending numinous and luminous.
Twenty Hertz

So far Miguel A. Tolosa, also known as Ubeboet have released a couple of works, mainly through MP3 labels, such as his own Con-V but also Earlabs and Zeromoon. 'Spectra' is a release that might be the first that is produced in any sort of commercial way. Ubeboet's music is not an odd-ball for the Twenty Hertz label, as the nine pieces show a deep interest in digital drones. Usually it's hard to think what went into the production of drone music, but here it's clear that the laptop is at the hard. Around it we find field recordings, FM radio, tape recorder and a lap steel guitar. Soft tinkles occur, embedded in a warm bed of digital insect chirping, moving through high and low ends of the sound spectrum. Nothing new under the microsun, but I must admit that this was quite a nice journey. Maybe it's the small melodies that are used here and there that add just that little bit of extra needed to stand out, in a very positive manner, from the usual suspects in this field. It's an absolutely fine release and hopefully the start of more beautiful things (with, to be honest, some minor changes to make this reviewer happy and see a break with the drone genre).

New work by madrid based sound artist Miguel a. Tolosa, two tracks condensing ubeboet's sound: drones, field recordings and spectral ambient.

Apart from running the Con-V label Miguel A. Tolosa is also active as a musician under the guise of Ubeboet. His releases so far has been on CDR and MP3 formats and he has worked with people like Pablo Reche and Asher. That might already give you some clue in which direction this goes. The two pieces here deal with field recordings made in various places in Spain and opens with a voice singing in what
appears to be a church. The following drones might be taken from a church organ. Both pieces have this angelic feeling to it. Ubeboet’s music was previously a bit more roughly shaped than the regular drone posse, but here he finds himself along the lines of say Paul Bradley or Jonathan Coleclough and I must say that, while I don’t think it’s all very ‘new’, this direction suits him better. Dark ambient drone
music, made through digital sound manipulation – but Ubeboet does a very fine job. Can’t understand why he should only want to make twenty-five copies of this release, as it seems.

Archival is the first vinyl release for Ubeboet.
For this album Ubeboet worked with several field-recordings and created his own sound world with it. While at times there are hints of musique-concrete masters like Nurse With Wound at the same time ethereal moments that in a distant remind of the classic Popol Vuh work. But while this inspiration can be heard Ubeboet has his own sound. As a true master he creates his own minimal sound world.
Archival is released as vinyl only release limited to 200.

ABOUT Ubeboet
Ubeboet is the musical project of M.A. Tolosa from Madrid, Spain. The focus in his music is on drone structures and field-recordings, but also contains elements of musique-concrete. In his sound he knows to create rich dense textures of sound, while staying on the minimal side of music.
In the past Ubeboet has released several releases both physical as digital on labels such as NonVisialObjects, Winds Measure Recordings, Test Tube among many others.
In the past he has worked with musicians such as Asher, Dale Lloyd and Pablo Reche.
