Reçu un mail de Justin pour présenter son label, Rainbow Bridge Recordings / Received a mail from Justin to introduce his label, Rainbow Bridge Recordings

Sensible Nectar / Gorgonized Dorks - Split (Rainbow Bridge Recordings, 2010)
This jam-packed cassette presents some of Sensible Nectar's most introspective and creative recordings yet as well as the latest works by the seasoned Gorgonized Dorks from Culver City, CA. With lyrics extremely political in nature, Justin Marc Lloyd of Sensible Nectar manages to drag you up and down the entire spectrum of harsh noise and nauseating psychedelia, complimented by the Dorks' masterpiece of frustrating and face-melting synth and feedback blasts, all the while living up to their reputation for being one of the craziest two-pieces in all the universe. Hand-stamped, black and purple, carefully spray-painted cassettes individually packaged with full-color cut-outs from a 1990's cat book. Each insert is unique and cute as well as disturbing depending on the nature of the photo. Lyrics and track information inside. Limited to 39.

Luminous / The Human Excuse / Sensible Nectar / Inappropriate King Live / Redroot - Split (Rainbow Bridge Recordings, 2010)

Somehow, this diverse compilation of folk, noise, harsh noise, power electronics, ambient and drone all flows together flawlessly like a nonsensical, mixed-media collage. Enjoy the dirty murmur of the UK's Luminous (Tim Chaplin), the drone-meets-noise creations of Sensible nectar, the industrial noise of Inappropriate King Live, and finally the innocent, young, dream-pop folk of Redroot and The Human Exucse all in one spray painted, hand-numbered, hand-assembled, hand-stamped package with full color artwork inside. Limited to 35.

Spitting Ladyladys / Bacteria Earth - Split (Rainbow Bridge Recordings, 2010)
Two swedish fellows under the moniker "Spitting Ladyladys" travel long, long light-years to bring you their intergalactic, foolish synth-noise science experiments. Following up is Bacteria Earth, providing you dense, depressing, doomsday drones that will drive you into oblivion. Imagine being sexually abducted by highly unintelligent, playful aliens then being dropped back on Earth in the unsafe zone of the set of 28 Weeks Later. Cardstock & paper packaging, numbered with inserts. Limited to 35.

Sensible Nectar / Spermwhales - Split (Rainbow Bridge Recordings, 2010)
Sensible Nectar sets the stage for schizophrenic, chaotic noise alongside tortured, heavily-effected screams about self-loathing and terrible memory with occasional fantastic illusions and trances. Spermwhales take over all trance responsibilities on side B and send you into a half-hour long, nearly unconscious opus appropriately named "Comatose." Numbered, painted and bagged with artwork & goodies. Limited to 50.

Matt Borghi & Ben Fleury-Steiner - What The Night Leaves Behind (Gears of Sand, 2007)

1 Broken Connection
2 Tracer
3 Have You
4 Coastal
5 Eyes Of Night

Of course we came across the name Matt Borghi in the recent weekly's and Ben Fleury-Steiner shouldn't be unknown either, as he is our man behind the excellent Gears Of Sand label.
Not much info can be found on the cover here as to how this collaborative work was conceived.
Maybe the opening piece 'Broken Connection' says it? Through the internet and exchange of sound files? It's a bit of rough edged ambient piece that one, but it's quite nice because of that.
It's the start of journey to five deep ambient landscapes, with the use of analogue and digital synths an samples that add that rough edge to the pieces.
It's ambient that has it's ties, if only very loosely, to industrial music, as it's not always easy sit back and enjoy here. It's a bit stranger than that, but of course not too alarmingly different.
It's a very nice, a bit more experimental ambient than some others, and standing in a longer tradition of ambient industrial of darker ambient.
Vital Weekly

Two well established craftsmen of ambient atmospherics join forces to create a gorgeous paean to the fleeting night sky. Slobor media co-owner and accomplished soundsmith Matt Borghi teams up in a long awaited collaborative with Gears of Sand founder, Ben Fleury-Steiner. Both artists have nearly 20 releases between them, but this one posseses a special sublime energy. Indeed, the results speak for themselves: Gorgeous, enveloping drones that reveal a complex array of moods. This is journey music, a mysterious voyage into a harbor of haunting darkness and waking light. A fitting way to celebrate Gears of Sand's 30th release.

Damian Valles - Bow Echoes (Resting Bell, 2010)

1 Ground Truth 10:27
2 A Bow Echo 6:11
3 Derechos 6:24
4 Debris 1:35
5 A Wake Pattern 6:01
6 Ridge And Furrow 9:44
Video Ground Truth 10:27

Resting Bell is very happy to welcome Damian Valles. Damian is a Canadian multi-instrumentalist who creates ambient/experimental works based mainly on solo guitar. He utilizes a wide range of sources to expand his sound which include a variety of percussive elements, piano, and field recordings. Past releases include a full length on the excellent Under The Spire imprint, and a 3? EP on Standard Form. The latter being the first in a series of limited 3? releases called “Rural Routes” that he is curating for the label.

His work “Bow Echoes” contains 6 audio-tracks with a duration of about 40 minutes and a 10-minute video for the opening track “Ground Truth”. Compared to his other releases, Damian put his focus more on drone- and ambient-scapes; however, “Bow Echoes” still has a very, very strong melodic center. The dominant washed-out and fading guitar-work give the whole release a touch of beauty and sublimity. Blurry shades, dimly lit landscapes, and warm colours layer and fade into each other. In addition, the video for “Ground Truth” perfectly visualises the sound and feel of the complete release.

Enjoy this wonderful release, full of warm drones and melodies, and welcome the spring (at least on the northern hemisphere)!

Julia LaDense - Trip (PandaFuzz, 2010)

1 Trip

Very happy to present our 20th release from Julia LaDense, entitled Trip. I first discovered Julia’s work through my good buddy Tyler at Electric Tapes, he released I Vote Everyday a few months back and I highly recommend it. From there I discovered a handful of other Julia releases and you can keep up with them through her via her website.

It is not just the stark minimalism that first put attention on her music, it is also the bold attitude presented behind it, that makes it clear she makes music for the pure enjoyment of it. Much like our last release from Leonardo Martins, this is a fine example of music without pretense.

Ginnungagap - Crashed Like Wretched Moth (Conspiracy Records, 2006)

1 Crashed Like Wretched Moth

Almost not worth listing this one at all. We only got 20, almost 10 were gone almost before they hit the shelves. This latest Ginnungagap is Mr. Stephen O'Malley of SUNNO))), Khanate and assorted other outfits. This one sided 12" is mostly solo piano, heavily reverbed, dense clouds of overtones, drifting and shimmery, with abstract bits of percussion and haunting barely there melodies. It actually sounds a bit like a Lubomyr Melnyk piece, played at 16rpm, little slow motion flurries of notes like snowflakes falling through a pitch black sky. Originally the sound component of an art show featuring O'Malley and Seldon Hunt, who also took the gorgeous cover photos...

Nixilx.Nijilx - Nixilx.Nijilx (absurd, 2004)

1 E.1-------------(R4604a) 15:46
2 Intermission [Excerpt From M.?.X.1-------------( )] 1:08
3 E.2-------------(M?.S??) 12:31

I never heard of the Nixilx.Nijilx project (let alone how to pronounce it!), but apperentely he is a 19 year old guy from Greece. He recorded electric guitar, voice, microphone noise, toy drum, breath and some field recordings and in the electronic process of all of these sounds, he comes up with a very strong piece of lowercase microsound. None of the seperate sound sources are to be recognized and the whole things becomes an intelligent ambientesque blurr of sound. Though the material in itself is quite interesting, I must say that the three tracks are also alike, which in this instance of just under thirty minutes is not a real problem. I think if it would have been stretched longer, it would have maybe (!) leaped into boredom a bit. So far, so good.

I8U - Obstacle: Phase 2 (Oral, 2002)

1 Obstacle: Phase 2 50:15

Obstacle Phase 2 is actually a work of sound, video and animation, but this CD only presents the sound part. One long track of flowing, mostly dark sounds, with an occasional rhythm. The piece evolves quite slowly and has an ambient feel, but on close listening, one can hear subtle things that are not very ambient at all. Despite the dark sounds, the piece doesn't have a gloomy atmosphere, it has a pretty concrete character. That's what sets it apart from regular ambient. The rhythmic elements are very minimal, so there is no danger whatsoever of the track becoming flat or cheesy. The slow development of the work does not cause loss of attenttion, on the contrary: the tension is kept so well, that the whole piece is very captivating.

“All percussions and concussions created by Daniel Menche.” So says the inner sleeve and truer words were never spoken. What starts out sounding like a cover version of Steve Reich's Drumming—layer upon layer of pulsating percussion patterns—rapidly escalates into a thunderous inferno of Dionysian proportions. Once a gargantuan level of density is reached and the listener finds him/herself wholly trapped at the center of the vortex, the relentless onslaught becomes a Rorschach, its pummeling throb resembling the amplified patter of pelting rain at one moment and the violent thrum of rabid animal scratching the next. Disc one's track seven sounds as if the Portland-based sound artist placed a microphone at the center of a roaring fireplace or a hornet's nest (no surprise that the title of Menche's 1993 debut is Incineration).

Still, though Concussions adheres to its strict conceptual principle throughout, contrasts regularly emerge during the twenty untitled tracks. Patterns mirror one another in disc one's track three as their repetitions alternate from left to right while track four gathers them up and drops them into the center of a hellish cauldron, reducing them to a howling mass. It's at such moments that Menche's repudiation of the label 'noise artist' for 'sound sculptor' has merit and his so-called quest for 'vehement beauty' achieved. Interestingly, though the churning Concussions generally makes Reich's Drumming seem a microsound outing by comparison, Menche's drumming patterns move in and out of sync with one another in a manner that's not wholly unlike its renowned precursor. Yes, it's an overwhelming experience—literally so when the two discs total 114 minutes—and not a ride I plan on taking more than once, yet incredible nonetheless.

Daniel Menche - Beast Resonator (Roggbif Records, 2006)

1 Untitled 25:43
2 Untitled 21:45
3 Untitled 24:54

Before mankind dedicated music to the "gods" there was music dedicated to the beasts and Daniel Menche's "Beast Resonator" carries that aim and inspiration. Massive bombastic drums, pounding relentless percussion, merciless beats and hypnotic destruction - "Beast Resonator" is boldly dedicated to the beasts and strictly for the beasts. 3 untitled tracks mixed continuously to make a relentless hour long primal attack of the senses to resonate the beast within. This is Menche's strongest percussion work to date and is sonically and brutally animalistic. Pure power tribal noise to resonate the beasts.

Sachiko - Hverfanda Hvél (Cut Hands, 2008)

1 Hverfanda Hvél 21:48
2 Sleeping Ananta 6:33

Hverfanda Hvél is Sachiko’s (Overhang Party, ex-Kousukoya) third solo album, after the purple vocal haze of You Never Atone For and the equally breathtaking Kunado, released last year on Utech. This one contains two, gutwrenching live performances at Tokyo’s Loopline. First track features Reiko.A of former Merzbow fame and travels through a thick, hazy fog of shimmering wordless vocals before collapsing face down in a pool of electronic voodoo damage. On the second, shorter piece Sachiko breathes out her zoned out mantra’s and washes of cosmic vocal beauty as if she’s honouring Yoshi Wada’s monumental spirit. A mesmerizing mayhem for real.

For this album I made the deliberate choice to use my four-track tapes and a tape recorder revox found in a flea market for a low price.
The tapes contained sounds recorded around my home between November 2008 and January 2007 with a parabolic mic.
On the tapes had been captured several recording sessions made "in the labor room" (the rehearsal room "The Jam" at La Chapelle sur Erdre) conducted between March and June 2008 with my son Ezeckiel, where he played among other , xylophone, guitar and harmonica.
It is early 2009 sorting out in my archives I came across them.
I decided to make a montage and mixing at all.
The title was inspired by the painting by François Boucher representing the ambiguity of the mythology around Leda and the swan.

MILIEU
BELL’N DITHER
MMD009
CD-R ALBUM / 100 COPIES

Needing something soft, moody and bittersweet for those humid Summer nights on the way? Look no further. Bell'n Dither is a spiritual follow-up to 2006's dusky electronic effort Night Currents, and probably the most electronic Milieu album yet. Dither is overloaded with skittering, microscopically manipulated beats and spacious pools of warm chords. Droplets of sad, rainy melodies cover a hulking rusted sub-bass contraption while you roll the windows down in your car just so you can smell the air before a thunderstorm. Dither could be considered both a return to form as well as exploratory and new for Milieu, and should satisfy even the most discriminating of Milieu listeners. Limited to 100 copies packaged in a lovely design by David Tagg, who also appears as a guest on one of the album’s tracks.

NOTE: THIS IS A PREORDER! ALL ORDERS WILL SHIP ON OR BEFORE THE WEEK OF MAY 3RD. INITIAL ORDERS MAY INCLUDE A BONUS SURPRISE…

Following the previous part one of this Milieu EP miniseries, Reverb Microcoma returns with even more "classic" Milieu sounds, ready to go in your Spring travels. While the first EP was set more in the Colortone universe, this one could fit squarely into the realm of Swaying Palms. Tracks like "Archipelagos" and "Blue Breeze" are total tropical Milieu, while "Melted Radio Tape" spits back a fuzzy space transmission, straight from Jupiter's moon Europa to your stereo. Five solid Milieu jams to rock your block with! Limited to 50.

Warm and drifting, and limited to 50.

DAVID TAGG
PENTECOST
INSTALL / INST010

My longtime collaborator, friend and all-around partner in crime David Tagg has just released his first CD ever, Pentecost (all prior releases were CD-Rs). Being the huge devotee of David’s work that I am, it came as nothing short of an honor that he asked me personally to master and sequence the album for him. I can assuredly say that anyone who likes our work together as VCV or even some of my deeper ambient things like Leaves Painted Purple or some of the Eufloria soundtrack will LOVE this album. Beautiful cathedral drones from a true master of the form! Here’s what AC Fellig at Install had to say about it:

When the hard work of the day is done, and you go home and begin your nightly routine of winding down, there are only so many things that reciprocate that relaxed stillness. Here at Install, we're happy to say that we have the exact soundtrack for many of your sleepy evenings to come: David Tagg's newest album PENTECOST. Following in the wake of his Cold Spring Harbor EP, and utilizing a process that included using his grandfather's reel-to-reel tapes of organ playing for source sound, David has created what could be described as an "ambient novel". A superbly vivid work of musical nonfiction that tells the stories of 1000 photographs, long since forgotten memories and a crackling, eroded legacy, now exhumed from the dusty wine cellars of Tagg's sentimental estate. What all this wholly amounts to is a landmark recording, full of cool, subdued tones and soft shadowy movements. PENTECOST could be David's strongest ambient moment, if not only for consistency, but also for potency.
