Eric Miller - Sinter (Stasisfield, 2010)

1 Sinter

Eric Miller's Sinter consists of six five-minute pieces bound together by digital proximity, conceptual conceit and overarching process. Each of the discrete elements of this suite of pieces has been composed using the same software (a program created within MAX/MSP) which imposes the same structure upon the source material fed through it – only the source material changes after every five minutes. A beautifully sparse series of trance-inducing rhythms is the result, with some source material pulsing like a Steve Reich composition pressed through a burlap sack, while other pieces sparkle like distant star clusters.

mysterybear - Elementals (Stasisfields, 2009)

1 Herald of Air
2 Nur
3 A Door Into Spring
4 Herald of Water

Peterborough, New Hampshire's Dave Seidel offers a microtonal ode to the four primal elements. Water, fire, earth and air are represented here by elegant synthetic sounds and digitally manipulated field recordings. Working primarily in Csound, Seidel sculpts swathing drones and digital flutters into monolithic representations of his natural subjects. Technicians will undoubtedly consult Seidel's notes included in the album's digital packaging as well as the more extensive essays on his personal website for details of these tracks' construction, while aesthetes will simply lose themselves in their overwhelming beauty.
