Arturas Bumšteinas is a well regarded musician and visual artist from Vilnius, Lithuania. He is involved in many projects in the fields of contemporary and experimental music. His compositions have been published by many labels as physical and online releases. Bumšteinas also has a prolific career as visual artist, working on techniques ranging from video to drawings, sound installations or photography.

Eterniday News (Vol. 1) is a compilation of four compositions centered on many aspects of soundscape composition, sampling and recombination. Composer has prepared quite a long oeuvre that portraits different moments during his touring around Europe. In general the whole release is a tour around different aspects of Bumšteinas interest in contemporary composition. A tour that generates an imaginary landscape of acoustic moments that has an inherent feel of sound logbook or the kind of recording you get back home after traveling.

Notes from the author:

„Waking Song (instrumental version)” is an instrumental version of original song for soprano voice and electroacoutsic ensemble from the song cycle called „Five Songs“. This cycle won 1st Prize in the Competition of Best Lithuanian Music Compositions of the Year 2009 (electroacoustic category). Instrumentals by Liudas Mockūnas (sax), Šarūnas Jankauskas (clarinet), Tadas Žukauskas (violin).

„Refusenik” was composed from various field-recordings captured in churches around Europe in years 2009-2010. Additional sample material of wind and stones was recorded on Sylt island, Germany in March of 2010. „Stolby” was composed from various over-over-processed samples of K.Stockhausen's music. All the sound sound material was recorded during rehearsals of Quartet Twentytwentyone for the Cut & Splice / BBC3 festival in London, 2008. Instrumentals by Arturas Bumšteinas (Yamaha PSS-390).

Juanjo Palacios - Portuario (Audiotalaia, 2011)

I personally met Juanjo Palacios a few months ago. We had the opportunity to gather in Madrid for a gig organised by our friends of Latimeria (Juan Antonio Nieto and Almudena Villar). I had been chatting on the net with him since I found it’s release as Blezna, released at Alg-a Netlabel. Since always we had in mind a future collaboration and I wanted him to work on a project for Audiotalaia. Finally after a wait that was worth here we have Portuario. The new instalment of Juanjo Palacios is a four track EP that combines all the interests of this particular artist.

Palacios defines himself as a phonographer and sound artist and he has been involved in many projects regarding Soundscapism. He combines the materials and soundscapes that he captures on field trips with processed drones and ambient textures. Palacios uses soundscapes as textures and elements to transport certain sonorities to specific places. This time, with Portuario, the issue its a Harbour (Musel Harbour in Gijón, North of Spain). The usage of both soundscapes and field recordings provide the release with a bast palette of sound structures that can be heard as abstracted soundscapes, or auditory schematisations of the sound of a shore.

Finally and reviewing it’s previous work at GreenField Recordings, we can understand the consistency of Palacios’s work. At Luis Antero Netlabel, Palacios released a Soundscape album based on shore recordings (Borde Litoral), on Audiotalaia this artist releases an abstraction of the shore or the coastline. If on the previous album we had a precise study of the northern coastline of Spain here we have an evocation of the same.

Since 2006 Óscar Yuste (aka Inane) has been self-releasing all his works at his webpage. After some gigs around Spain this artist from Zaragoza has decided to spread his work an reedit it on different labels.

Óscar Yuste considers his project Inane as a hybrid proposal in which to merge photography, design, improvisation and audiovisual experimentation. This project started with its homonymous album called Inane in which he settled down the basis of it’s very own language. After editing an EP homaging Eraserhead from David Lynch, Inane releases Til hamingju med afmælid that now comes to Audiotalaia as a reedited version ready to download.

Til hamingju med afmælid its probably the album that sets the tempo of Inane’s creative path, if we listen his following release called “Ensemble” we can understand waht’s going on with this particular artist and his way of constructing parcels of melodic drones and building cinematic scenes with a big charge of epic gestures.

Also we want to show our gratitude to Andrea Pazos who has agreed to work on the artwork for this special release. Pazos has been working on the image of this Inane release. She has combined its own visual language with the hidden concept behind Til hamingju með afmælið.

Following our tendency on releasing works from local artists. This october we are glad to present the latest work by Sevillan sound artist David J Fonseca. After many years working on soundtracks and compositions for theater and documentary Fonseca delivers “Al Borde Del Silencio (Something like, “at the edge of silence” in spanish).

After releasing on well known Alg-a Netlabel, Fonseca delivers the next step on his personal approach on sound composition. Becoming a trademark of his own style Fonseca presents a collection of minimalistic pieces that explore different ways to display and distribute sound on our auditory perception.

This work ranges from electric-like drones to pure field recordings and explores the dialogues and correlations that can exist between different sound textures. Fonseca tends to create changing structures that sometimes drift to one color and sometimes they change abruptly to something complitley different keeping the audience always ready for the next twi

After the summer break Audiotalaia is back with a new release. This time we are getting closer to the work of valencian sound artist Josué Coloma. Under his alias Alozeau, Coloma presents a five track EP entitled Returning Waves.

After having released at Coda Netlabel and Chennoir Netlabel, Alozeau presents a synthetic alb.um that explores small topics in each track. It seems that every composition on this album has a concrete topic and theme that is been repeated all along. Despite this consideration the album tells a story that is shifting at every stop. At certain point Alozeau dares to twist our auditory perception with a short track that changes the whole pace of the album, generating some sort of crossroad that will lead us to the final track, Returning Waves.

Finally this release is a very good example of carefully crafted dark ambient work. Coloma shows one more time the healthiness of his experimental project and shares it with all of us.
