Peter Wright - Transfusion (Last Visible Dog, 2000)

01 Transfusion

70+ minute track recorded for a gallery in New Zealand; starts off with a lush soundscape of chimes and bells and electronic buzz before it dissipates into a vast expanse of hum and skronk and reverb and lots and lots of S P A C E. Very musique concrete.

Listening Mirror - Intensity Breeds Inertia (aReW recordings, 2010)

1 Rogue Brother 11:20
2 The Wonder of Christine 8:00
3 Nothing Seen 10:43
4 Without Saying Goodbye 12:42

Listening Mirror is the sometime collaborative sound project of Jeff Stonehouse.

Jeff lives and works in the South East of England. Close to the hills of the South Downs and the coast beyond

Jeff has been making and manipulating sound since the early 1980's, inspired by the Post-Punk and Industrial movements of that time.

He uses found sounds and field recordings to produce soundscapes which are sometimes enhanced by talented collaborators and sometimes left to breathe on their own.

Listening Mirror is an attempt to manipulate sound as a defence against itself, to extract some beauty from the noise that surrounds us all every day.'

Nasienie – Blackwood (Webbed Hand Records, 2011)

01 Land and Sea 04:51
02 Insomnia 03:09
03 Old Enough To Know Better 02:19

Nasienie returns with an EP of finely produced ambient soundscapes.

Despite its brevity, this trio of ambient compositions seems to expand the experience of time itself.
Webbed Hand Records

“‘Land and Sea’ used a sample of “Land and Sea” by Halkyn. This one talking about some free folk.
‘Insomnia’ inspired by an original “Insomnia” movie (1997) and Robin Rimbaud aka Scanner. Pure ambient.
‘Old Enough To Know Better’ – kind of abstract hop, I guess.”

This ambient concept album crafted with piano and effected guitar bring to mind a melancholy film soundtrack.
Webbed Hand Records

“This album is a process of hours and hours of working without sleep. Isolated in a room, with just a laptop, guitar and piano. It can be seen as the melancholy of a bitter old man who will die in a few minutes. Enjoy!

…The work is open for interpretation, for me personal it’s about a period in my life, I see it as the last minutes of recalling memories before the death of the person…

It’s the second album made as “Uitgezonderd”, first one, “Only the Lonely” was more drone/noise, and this style has evolved to the sound in this album.”

melophobia – rain 11_03M (Webbed Hand Records, 2011)

01 rain 11_03M

melophobia follows up 10_2M [wh147] with a contribution to Webbed Hand’s long-form ambient “Rain” series, a work of shifting sound textures and great subtlety.

Rain is a series of conceptual tracks produced for Webbed Hand Records. Each “Rain” is a CD-length ambient recording ideal for quiet listening while meditating, writing, or going to sleep. Typically the recordings in this series are minimalistic soundscapes, with motifs played out cyclically rather than progressively, in order to induce relaxed states.

Judith Egger & Michael Northam - Andapa Garden (Edition Graphon, 2003)

01 Andapa Garden 20:04

Sound substrata of the inner garden. Underground Sound wide open. Trees and bushes as a long sustained, hollow music.
Birds, butterflies and other animals seen only in sounding forms by the internal eye, entering the night in an ecstatic sleep state, dreaming with the sound of a human hidden light. Leaves with tiny little poems of sound written on it, the drone flowers of a secret floral language...
A cd not just to hear but also to plant in the cd-player, to let its roots grow deep in the electronic filaments of the equipment and watch patiently the blossom of digital flowers of sound. A small musical herbal. Organic music in the true sense of the word...

11 Obsil – Two years ago
12 Ornitology – Restless
13 Elisa Luu – Piano
14 Gigi Masin – A fog book
15 Pierpaolo Leo – Bioluminescence

The Lost Children Net Label proudly presents Underwater Noises - a compliation album curated and produced by Attilio Novellino and Enrico Coniglio in conjunction with Ephre Imprint.

The theme running through all tracks of this work is 'water' (and its numerous concerns risen around the globe).
The album is comprised of tracks by 15 Italian artists (Enrico Coniglio, Francesco Giannico, Gigi Masin, Obsil, Elisa Luu, Attilio Novellino (Un Vortice Di Bassa Pressione) and Pierpaolo Leo among others) working with electroacoustics, microsounds, emotional drive and drowned sounds, all in a free-experimentation zone.
Each artist was prompted to submit a track inspired somehow by the notion of water, according to their individual angle. The upshot is a multilayered work, giving voice to the umpteen facets of a theme which has always created a particularly deep and serious attraction for musicians working in the drone/ambient scene.
The sonorities of field recording, glitched digressions, electroacoustic idylls, dreamy soundscapes, abysmal notes, dilated, diluted, purified, desecrated water...
Together these artists have releases across labels such as Touch, Porter, Laverna, Sub Rosa, Ripples, Cronica, Zymogen and more.
The project is released on Ephre Imprint as a strictly limited edition CDR, plus in conjunction with the Lost Children Net Label as a download.

4 Those We’ll Never Know 4:15
5 Parting Words 2:02
6 Above & Beyond 3:20
7 We Are Silhouettes Now 2:50

Lost Children Net Label proudly presents Ben Woods' We Are Silhouettes Now. A wholesome offering of layered sky-gazing soundscapes, piano driven introspection and subliminal bliss.

It is an addictive seven track EP that will entice its listeners with its elegant structures and variations, reminiscent of those found in the cinematic compositions of Angelo Badalamenti. The music subtly finds its way under the listeners skin, stopping time, bringing a moment of peace draped in shades of melancholic yet uplifting blue as reflected so dexterously in the artwork by Ludo Vanroy. In a way it can be seen as the extension and pinnacle of These Passing Thoughts, a collection of 'endless hours of wasted moments', which will offer the additional fix the listener will crave for after listening to We Are Silhouettes Now.

Roland Kayn - Cybernetic Music III (Reiger-records-reeks, 1996)

not the original cover artwork....

Roland Kayn passed away the 6th of january... RIP...

here a post by Classical Drone:

Another of the great pioneer electroacousticians passed away this week. Roland Kayn was a part of the early electronic improv groups, Nuova Consonanza, with Ennio Morricone, Franco Evangelisti and Aldo Clementi, but his mark came with huge electronic epics that he started composing in the mid-1960s. One part of his Cybernetics project was released on the legendary DGG Avant-Garde series of LPs, and in 1970 Kayn released a 3-LP set of a 148-minute work, Simultan. By the late 1970s most of his work was electroacoustic, all of it big: Makro (released on 3 LPs) in 1977, Infra (released on 4 LPs) in 1979-80, Tektra (released on 6 LPs and later reissued on 4 CDs) in 1980. He created his own label, where he has released 15 albums of his music, 13 of them electroacoustic, all but one as 2-CD sets, none of them reissues of the LPs. He adapted marvelously to the digital age, increasing his output dramatically, with 220 of his 287 works composed in his last decade, all of them electronic. In 2009 alone, he composed 30 electronic works for a total of over 36 hours of music.

Even as I am staggered by the quantity, everything that I've heard by him transports me to a different place, and I always look forward to his works when they appear in the iPod rotation. I suspect that his work in cybernetics led him to some kind of generative system, but most of the documents on his web site are in languages I don't read (Dutch, German, Italian, etc.). Hopefully more detailed information will become available in English about his music.

Juanjo Palacios - Portuario (Audiotalaia, 2011)

01 Rozamiento
02 Atraque
03 Contenedor
04 Pantalán

I personally met Juanjo Palacios a few months ago. We had the opportunity to gather in Madrid for a gig organised by our friends of Latimeria (Juan Antonio Nieto and Almudena Villar). I had been chatting on the net with him since I found it’s release as Blezna, released at Alg-a Netlabel. Since always we had in mind a future collaboration and I wanted him to work on a project for Audiotalaia. Finally after a wait that was worth here we have Portuario. The new instalment of Juanjo Palacios is a four track EP that combines all the interests of this particular artist.

Palacios defines himself as a phonographer and sound artist and he has been involved in many projects regarding Soundscapism. He combines the materials and soundscapes that he captures on field trips with processed drones and ambient textures. Palacios uses soundscapes as textures and elements to transport certain sonorities to specific places. This time, with Portuario, the issue its a Harbour (Musel Harbour in Gijón, North of Spain). The usage of both soundscapes and field recordings provide the release with a bast palette of sound structures that can be heard as abstracted soundscapes, or auditory schematisations of the sound of a shore.

Finally and reviewing it’s previous work at GreenField Recordings, we can understand the consistency of Palacios’s work. At Luis Antero Netlabel, Palacios released a Soundscape album based on shore recordings (Borde Litoral), on Audiotalaia this artist releases an abstraction of the shore or the coastline. If on the previous album we had a precise study of the northern coastline of Spain here we have an evocation of the same.

The project of two musicians living in different parts of the world:
Matthew Sforcina (Australia) – vocals
Sun-Inside (Ukraine) – music

This well-produced collaborative effort stands out very distinctly among the variety of electronica artists operating today, though to my mind it is reminiscent of the pioneering works of neo-dada industrial groups like Cabaret Voltaire and Coil, a very high commendation indeed. However the themes explored are very uniquely those of the artists, and despite the great distance between them they bring it all together as if they share a studio.

The Musk-rat Cult – The Last Mark of the Upcoming End (Webbed Hand Records, 2010)

01 Lead Your Plough Through the Bones of the Dead 10:00
02 The Monster 03:13
03 The cry of all things that are going to die 12:32

These abstract dark ambient works by the Musk-rat Cult approach sound from a painterly perspective.

When asked to describe this album, here’s what the artist said:
“It’s hard to write something about this album, the idea was to create music that’s like an abstract painting – everyone can hear something different in it. I’m a painter, so I’m always surprised with what other people can see while looking at my paintings. Sometimes they see it as something completely different from what I thought while creating them. I wanted this album to be as abstract as possible and I think it works. There were a lot of different oppinions about it, someone told me, that it sounds like a soundtrack to David Lynch’s movies (which may be true, I’m a big fan of those), someone else said it’s more like a musical way of describing mental disorder or a psychedelic trip.
While recording this album I used a lot of strange noises, some of them are animal sounds with some effects used on them, others are radio noises. I even used a noise that my radio started making during an aurora in Iceland. I don’t think anyone else have ever used this sounds to create music.

…TLMOTUE is the 4th album by this project. First years of creating music as TMC (2005-2007) was just experimenting with different sounds and noises. There were a lot of demos, I put the best tracks together and that’s how the first official (at least for me, it was never released) record of TMC was created. It’s a 10-track EP called “Mechanical Bananas, Rubber Spoons and Jelly Mutants from Outer Space”. I think the title tells a lot about how it sounds, it’s like a strange, psycho child of Monty Python and Merzbow.

Between 2008 and 2009 I used to play in many different bands, I needed something different, something made only by myself. That’s when I thought about creating something as The Musk-rat Cult again. Before I used to think about it as something not really serious, but at that moment I thought that I can make it something more than just a way to kill some time. I started creating new music, that was still very noisy, but it became darker. That’s how the second EP called “Enema” was created.

After “Enema” I felt that the idea for this project in that shape is over. That’s why just after recording “Enema” I started working on the first “real” album as TMC. The name of it was supposed to be “Hidden Faces and Surreal Voices”, but finally I changed it to “Mutatis Mutandis (Hidden Faces and Surreal Voices)” Again the title tells it all – mutatis mutandis which means “the necessary changes having been made” is a perfect way to describe the way I felt while creating this music. It is probably the first record by TMC where I haven’t used only noises and different sounds, but I combined them with more traditional sounds and real instruments.”
